Introduction

Life without texture is difficult to imagine. Moreover the beauty and joy that we experience (see, feel, smell etc.) is due to the variations. Variation of data at scales smaller than the scale of interest manifests as texture. In Image Processing variations in pixel intensities in small region give rise to textures. These variations in pixel intensities are the result of physical surface properties such as oriented strands, roughness, and reflectance differences.

Though texture is very difficult to define we recognize texture when we see. The image processing community tries to understand texture in the limited context; as representation of intensity variations in small region called texel.

The aim of this workshop is to understand the advancements in texture analysis in Image Processing. Some of the main Image Processing Research Achievements around texture can be put in a homogeneous material. We are attempting in this workshop to cover some of the major achievements in the last 4 decades.  In addition to this, some applications of texture analysis such as Content Based Image Retrieval (CBIR), characterization of normal organ in CT images, etc. will be dealt with.

The objectives of the workshop are:

·         To provide a platform for researchers in Texture Analysis and Applications.

·         To promote research activity in Biomedical Texture analysis (Indian medical texture databases for CT and MRI images is need of the hour)

·          To form a working group on texture amongst the local and regional researchers.

About SGGSIE&T, Nanded

Shri Guru Gobind Singhji (SGGS) Institute of Engineering and Technology, Nanded was established on 17th December 1981. The institute is now enjoying autonomous status and is cent percent aided by Government of Maharashtra. Hon. B.N. Kalyani, an eminent industrialist, heading the Kalyani Group of Companies, is working as Chairman of the Governing Board. The Government has also appointed renowned personalities from the business, industry, academics and its senior administrative cadre on the Governing Board. This institute offers eight undergraduate and five post graduation courses in the various streams of engineering and technology. It is also university recognized research center. Visit http://www.sggs.ac.in for more info.

About Nanded and Institute Location

Nanded, earlier known as 'Nandigram', is located to the southeastern part of Maharashtra State on the banks of holy river Godavari. It has population of about half a million people and has the uniqueness of its own due to its historical, social and political importance. The tenth Guru of Sikkhs, Guru Gobind Singhji held his court and congregation here. This is the place where he installed “Shri Guru Granth Sahibji” as GURU in 1708. The city is a well-known education center in the Marathwada region. The city has very pleasant weather in November. The Institute is located at Vishnupuri, about 7 km from Nanded railway and bus stations well accessible by public transport like buses and autorickshaws.
